Implementing a Local Sustainable Food Program

Moving to food sustainability requires a whole new way of doing food, and it has to be learned almost from scratch. So that’s what we did.

LFP cut its teeth on the biggest contract for Certified Local Sustainable food in North America, and arguably the world – the contract with University of Toronto, the continent’s largest post-secondary campus.

Both LFP and U of T staff have since earned an Honours BA and MA in the school of hard knocks, in helping make sustainable food happen. Along the way, we’ve also learned how to work with farmers, processors, distributors, retailers, caterers and restaurants.

And while sustainable food systems are too new for anyone or any organization to be able to claim to be the expert, it’s fair to say that LFP is likely the most broadly knowledgeable organization in the field.

In fact the more we’ve learned about how steep the learning curve is, the more it’s become obvious that LFP has to offer consulting services to help organizational leaders develop informed and effective strategies.

We’re not keeping it a secret
